"Drum sound rises on the air, its throb, my heart. A voice inside the beat says, “I know you’re tired, but come. This is the way."

FRAME DRUM

PETS ENJOY DRUMMING

Below is a picture of my rescue cat Osiris sitting on a pashmina.

I find that he and my other pet, a lizard named Sobek, who is a bearded dragon, enjoy it when I play because they come closer and stick around!

PEOPLE ENJOY DRUMMING TOO

When I share new videos of me improv playing on the frame drum, friends who have never heard me or a frame drum become surprised and excited!

The steady beat is grounding and heals body, mind, and spirit.

DRUM SPECIFICS

Drum shells are made of wood. The bigger the drum, the lower the pitch.

Drum heads can be synthetic (vegan material) or goatskin. Drum makers take the skin of a goat that has died, clean and treat it so that it can be honoured and played by the drummer who will eventually own the drum.

DRUM SOUNDS

Synthetic drum heads have a non-changing pitch which is great for beginners or those who live in hot and dry environments.

Personally, I prefer goatskin. When the weather is cold and/or rainy, my drum pitches down. I love when that happens as I enjoy the richer, deeper tone that develops when the drum head retains moisture from the air!
